Former technical Director of McLaren and one of the authors of the legendary F1 Gordon Murray showed the final coupe design T. 50. Production of the supercar with the most advanced aerodynamics among road cars will be occupied by Murray Gordon Murray Automotive (GMA), and the feature car will be the active ground-effect with a 400-millimeter fan.
The main parameters of the GMA T. 50 opened in the summer. Now the company has decided to tell more about aerodynamics and to show the render of the coupe. As expected, the main element of the supercar became the fan of system of ground-effect, the dilution air beneath the underbody to increase downforce. The decision came from racing in the 70s was tested in a formula race car Brabham BT46B, a co-author who was also Gordon Murray.
The fan accelerates the air under the bottom and sends it through the active air ducts that are part of the rear diffuser. The design allowed us to abandon the “skirts” and complex aerodynamic “tail”, making the coupe design “more rapid and clean”: at the rear there are only slits for cooling the engine and a pair of movable wings, and on the roof, the air intake inertia supercharging. Combining the algorithms of active elements GMA T. 50 will offer six aerodynamic conditions.
The first two profiles are enabled by default: to Auto the system automatically adapts to the speed and action of the driver; in Brake Mode it doubles the downforce, which is 10 meters shortens the braking distance when slowing down from 240 km / h. Add-on High Downforce creates 30 percent more clamping force, and Streamline by 10 percent reduces the drag coefficient and the virtual extends the “tail” of the supercar, cranking the fan up to maximum speed.
To set the maximum speed Vmax Mode is designed – the same Streamline, this is the only mode for an extra “boost” for three minutes included a 30-horsepower electric motor. Finally, the Test profile doesn’t do anything useful, but only demonstrates the capabilities of active aerodynamics.
In size T. 50 is slightly less than the Porsche 911. Back within the base installed a 4.0-liter V12 Cosworth-GMA with camber block 65 degrees, able to spin to 12 100 rpm and supplemented by a 48-volt starter-generator. The engine produces 650 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque (peak power is 700 HP). It is paired with a developed in cooperation with Xtrac six-speed “mechanics” and limited slip differential.
Recently Gordon Murray Automotive has signed an agreement with the team in Formula-1 Racing SportPesa Point, which co-owner Lawrence Stroll, is rumored to be looking to buy Aston Martin. On the basis of Point Racing at Silverstone will conduct virtual and physical tests of a scale model T. 50 in a wind tunnel with a movable cloth. In addition, the team will provide a group of engineers who will be engaged in a subtle fine-tuning of the supercar.
Public presentation of GMA T. 50 will be held in may next year. Just released 100 copies of the coupe the cost of two million pounds, and most copies have already sold out. The first customers will receive their cars in 2022. The intent of the Murray, the novelty becomes the ideological successor to the McLaren F1.
