The frankly middle-aged Toyota 4Runner, current, the fifth generation of which appeared back in 2009, was refreshed for the US market by presenting cars of the 2022 model year. The main new thing was the TRD Sport version, which the SUV got after the Tacoma pickup.
While the TRD Off-Road and TRD Pro versions stand out for their enhanced off-road capabilities, the Toyota Racing Development Sports Package is all about performance and style. The 4Runner TRD Sport features X-REAS suspension with criss-cross shock absorbers that improve handling and combat roll in corners. The same system is installed in the rich set of Limited.
The new build is based on the base SR5, with 17 “rims being replaced by 20” ones. Other exterior features include colored accents, a TRD hood air intake, and black roof rails. LED headlights are standard on all SUVs for the new model year.
In the interior, instead of the fabric, SofTex leatherette with gray stitching is used, the heated front headrests are decorated with the TRD logo. In addition, TRD Sport floor mats are available. The multimedia system with an eight-inch screen and support for Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Amazon Alexa has been preserved.
Toyota 4Runner TRD Sport is available in mono and all-wheel drive. In the latter case, it is a “part-time” scheme with a two-stage distribution. The engine is the same four-liter 273-horsepower petrol V6 with a five-speed automatic. The equipment, among other things, includes branded assistants and safety systems Toyota Safety Sense P.
Pricing has not yet been announced. The previous year’s SUV in the initial SR5 trim now starts at $ 36,765.
