The first copy of the second generation Acura NSX Type S coupe was sold at the Mecum auction in Monterey (California, USA). For the two-door car it was possible to gain 1.1 million dollars, that is, the buyer paid six times the price for the NSX with a “beautiful” VIN number. The owner of the very first Acura NSX Type S is known – the supercar went to the owner of the racing team Hendrick Motorsports, who already has a regular Acura NSX with the same VIN “001”.
In fact, the Mecum auction raffled off the right to buy the very first Acura NSX Type S – the buyer will be able to independently choose the body color and interior trim.
However, the Lightweight Package cannot be abandoned, which means that the 001 supercar will feature carbon ceramic brakes, carbon fiber body kit and carbon fiber interior inserts.
The buyer of the first production Acura NSX Type S – the owner of the NASCAR Hendrick Motorsports racing team Rick Hendrick – participates in Acura auctions not for the first time: in 2016, a man paid $ 1.2 million for the very first copy of the second generation Acura NSX. The proceeds from the sale of models with “beautiful” VIN numbers are donated by automakers to charity.
The NSX Type S is limited to 350 units, with 50 Honda-branded coupes to be sold in Japan and 300 supercars for the North American market. Features of the “charged” model – boosted up to 608 horsepower and 667 Nm hybrid power plant, reconfigured suspension and a more agile 7-speed “robot”.
The Type S line will complete a seven-year production run of the second generation NSX supercars. While Honda said nothing about the successor to the coupe, the two-door Integra has been revived, bringing the iconic name to the premium compact model.
