Chinese media found pictures of the new generation of the Volkswagen Lamando in the catalog of the local certification body. It used to be a Jetta sedan, but it looks like it received a coupe silhouette and a large fifth door as part of the update.
The Volkswagen Lamando sedan has been produced in China since 2014. With a length of 4598 mm, this car is only 61 mm shorter than the international “Jetta” of the sixth generation, similar to it in general style and classic sedan profile, but built on a more modern MQB platform. However, in the new generation Lamando is moving away from one global relative to become like another.
The presence of a full-fledged fifth door is noticeable at the junction between the rear window and the roof. The roofline is lower, the doors are frameless, the length of the car is 4784 mm, the wheelbase is 2731 mm, and it is based on the MQB Evo platform. A virtually scaled-down Arteon with a smiley front design.
The “second” Lamando will be produced at the facilities of the SAIC-Volkswagen joint venture. According to preliminary information, the model will be equipped with a 1.4-liter TSI turbo engine with a capacity of 150 hp. and a seven-speed “robot” DSG with dual clutch. The official premiere is expected later this year, the novelty will probably not be officially shipped outside of China.
