The three-row Hyundai Custo is heading towards its premiere on August 27 at the Chengdu Auto Show. The model was created by Beijing Hyundai and is clearly aimed at the Chinese market. It is already known that Custo is equipped only with petrol turbo-fours 1.5 (170 hp, 253 Nm) with a seven-band “robot” and 2.0 (236 hp, 353 Nm) with an eight-speed “automatic”. Four-wheel drive is not expected. The seven-seater salon was demonstrated for the first time.
Custo is built on the same i-GMP / N3 platform as the fourth Tucson with a Santa Cruz pickup. The Trinity is also united by the Parametric Dynamics design style. Dimensions are comparable to the main competitors (Buick GL8 and Honda Odyssey): 4950 x 1850 x 1734 mm, between axles 3055. Staria is noticeably larger.
Multifunction, digital tidy and push-button selector “machine” are familiar from the Sonata and Tusan. The massive center console is crowned with an atypical 10.4-inch display. The wreck had to be placed at the base of the display. Seats of the second row – “captain” (formula 2 + 2 + 3).
The rear doors slide along the rails. Lights and headlights – LED. The tailgate is most likely equipped with an electric drive and a swing sensor. Wheels are 18-inch by default.
If Custo gets to Europe, he will get HEV and PHEV hybrid units, like Tusan. Electroversion is not ruled out, but unlikely, since it is the domain of the Ioniq sub-brand. According to the CPCA (China Passenger Car Association), Hyundai and Kia jointly sold 249,233 vehicles to the Chinese in the first half of the year (-10.8%). Of these, 187 639 units (+ 3.5%) belong to the Hyundai brand, 61 594 (-37.2%) to Kia. In comparison with the first “dock” half of 2019, sales of Hyundai fell by 31%, KIA – by 57.4%. By the end of this year, the partners planned to sell about 562,000 and 255,000 vehicles in China, respectively. Now the goal seems out of reach.
