The appearance of the conceptual crossover of the smart brand was revealed on Instagram by the chief designer of Mercedes Gorden Wagener. Previously, we knew about this car only from data leaks, and now for the first time a company representative has confirmed its existence, as well as the fact that it is an all-electric crossover and that its debut will take place in September at the IAA Mobility auto show in Munich.
The bosses of the smart brand had the first thoughts about the SUV back in 2005, and even the name ForMore was prepared, but it was not useful. Maybe now they will remember him.
A beginner should be a little over four meters long. He will have a brother in the person of the Volvo XC20.
The Germans talked about adding a serial crossover to the Smart range eight years ago, before the launch of the current Fortwo and Forfour city cars. Naturally, at that time, Renault’s partnership in the project seemed logical. But only after the new stage in the development of the smart brand was handed over to Geely, the idea began to take on real shape.
Photos of a live SUV show only its fragments, but Gorden Wagener published sketches that clearly reveal the appearance. The only thing missing is the image of the lanterns.
The concept is based on the PMA-2 / Geely SEA platform. L’Argus predicts the launch of a model with a single 250-horsepower electric motor on the rear axle, with the prospect of adding a front electric motor for all-wheel drive at a later date. A cruising range of 500 km on the NEDC cycle should be provided by a lithium-ion 800-volt battery with a capacity of about 70 kWh. The unnamed smart crossover should enter the market in late 2022 or early 2023.
