BMW has released the first official photo of the new generation M3 Touring sports station wagon. It is assumed that the car, which will receive a 510-horsepower engine, will debut in 2022.
A camouflaged prototype photographed from the back shows large multi-spoke wheels and four twin tailpipes. The front end will feature the huge grille nostrils previously seen on the M3 Sedan and on the M4 Coupe and Convertible.
From them, the new BMW M3 Touring will get a 3.0-liter six-cylinder in-line gasoline engine with two turbines, which in the standard version will develop 480 hp, and in the Competition version – 510 hp.
The unit will operate in conjunction with an 8-speed automatic transmission and xDrive all-wheel drive with active rear differential. According to preliminary data, the sports station wagon will be able to gain the first “hundred” in 3.9 seconds, and its maximum speed will be limited to 250 km per hour. With the optional M Driver’s Package, the electronic limiter has been moved to 280 km per hour.
At the moment, BMW is also developing the next-generation compact sports coupe M2. The most powerful and fastest version of the new generation BMW 2-Series coupe, which debuted in the standard version at the beginning of June 2021, will be equipped with a 3.0-liter “turbo six” with a capacity of 430 horsepower. Thus, the BMW M2 will be able to compete with the 421-horsepower Mercedes-AMG A45 S hatchback and the 400-horsepower Audi RS3 of the new generation.
