Infiniti has ditched the production of a super coupe based on the Q60 Project Black S concept model with Formula 1 technologies. This information, based on the top managers of the brand, was shared by the Automotive News agency.
The decision on the project was supposed to be made in the fall of 2019. The long silence indicated a negative verdict. But it was officially announced only now. The concept was inspired by former Infiniti head Roland Kruger. After his departure, the project was put on hold. Moreover, the dealers interviewed by a foreign agency supported the decision: the brand needs a cash model, and not a deliberately unprofitable exclusive.
The Infiniti Q60 Project Black S has a 3.0-liter turbocharged “six” and three motor-generators, two of which collect energy from the exhaust gases, one – heat. It is stored in a 4.4 kWh battery. The total performance of the power unit is 571 hp
During acceleration, which allows you to gain 100 km / h in less than 4 seconds, the stored energy can help spin up the turbochargers or be supplied to the transmission. This scheme came from the world of Formula 1. There are three riding modes: Road, Quali and Race.
The complex assembly and transmission added about 200 kg of weight to the sports car. For this reason, in order to keep the weight within reasonable limits, the cars were lightened in all possible directions. It is noted that the Q60 Project Black S was built in just a year and a half.
