Car of the year is chosen on the basis of the estimated 69 journalists from Japan. The competition includes only those models that appeared on the market in the period from October last year to November this year there were 35. From them selected 10 finalists.

Win with Toyota RAV4 competed Mazda3, BMW 3 series, Toyota Corolla, Jaguar I-Pace, Jeep Wrangler, Honda N-WGN, the Mercedes-Benz A-Class, Nissan Dayz and Daihatsu Tanto. The gap between the RAV4 and its closest competitor, the Mazda3, has made more than 100 points. Experts awarded crossover from Toyota the highest number of points over a wide range of four-wheel drive versions, a spacious interior, comfortable ride and a roomy trunk.

For Toyota this is the eighth award: Car of the Year Japan held on for 39 years. And in recent times, this brand received the top prize in 2009 – then the competition won the third-generation Prius. And in the last two years the best car on the version of the Japanese journalists have become the models of Volvo.
