Lincoln, which decided to abandon sedans in the North American market, has prepared a new four-door Zephyr for China. The commercial model will debut at the end of the year and the Zephyr Reflection pre-production prototype is now on display at Auto Shanghai.
“Lincoln’s PRC strategy is based on our deep understanding of discerning Chinese consumers. Their passion for sedans was the inspiration for this progressive and distinctive car, ”said company president Joy Falotico.
“Serial Concept” shown without technical specifications. It is only said that it “hints at the future” of Quiet Flight’s design philosophy and casts a “new look at American luxury” especially for younger generation Z clients.
The look “reflects the unique confidence and boundless optimism of a young Chinese shopper.” For him, welcome lights are turned on: LED headlights and lamps stretched across the entire width of the body, a light “mat” under the feet. Pull-out door handles “accentuate graceful lines.”
The front panel is occupied by three displays: a digital cluster and a central panoramic screen. Below them is a selector with touch buttons (icons appear only when activated), which are also visible on the multifunction steering wheel and the center console. The latter is equipped with a drum switch.
Two Lincoln sedans are now available to the Chinese: MKZ at the price of 255,800–369,800 yuan (39,400–56,900) and Continental, which asks for 360,800–555,800 (55,500–85,600). Both are outdated, but the compact Zephyr is clearly replacing the MKZ. Otherwise, the emphasis on youth is difficult to explain. The prototype looks a lot like a Mustang Mach-E electric car, or a plug-in hybrid a la Lincoln Corsair PHEV, also arriving in Shanghai.
How do you rate Zephyr’s design?
