The most “popular” electric car received a long version with a large power reserve


A whole army of imitators has grown up at the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV electric car in China (we talked about one of them, Xiaokang Tangguo, yesterday). But none beats the Mini EV in popularity. In August, the model gained 32,847 buyers (+ 259% against August 2020) and took the third line among the best-selling cars in the Middle Kingdom, of all classes and types. The first place belongs to the Nissan Sylphy sedan (47 973 units), the second – to the Volkswagen Lavida model (36 441 units). Is Wuling resting on its laurels? No, he is preparing a new version – extended and with a large power reserve on charging.

The length, width and height of the new modification are 2997x1493x1604 mm, and the wheelbase extends to 2010 mm. Wheels are 12-inch.

Current Wuling Hongguang Mini EV. Length, width, height – 2917x1493x1621 mm, wheelbase – 1940 mm. Curb weight – 665 and 705 kg. Motor – 20 kW (27 HP), 85 Nm. Battery – 9.3 and 13.9 kWh to choose from. Cruising range – 120 and 170 km (NEDC). Price – from 28,800 to 43,600 yuan (4,500-6,800 dollars) depending on the battery and configuration.

Photos of the new car (picture below the headline and below) have been leaked by the Chinese Ministry of Industry (MIIT), as have the first specs. The manufacturer, a joint venture SAIC-GM-Wuling, actually reshaped the entire body, which added 70 mm in the base and 80 mm in length, although it became 17 mm lower. Bumpers and optics have changed.

One of the shots of the new model shows the Game Boy logo on the C-pillar. Perhaps this is a special edition.

It is much more interesting that this version received a more powerful electric motor (30 kW, 41 hp) and a lithium-iron phosphate battery with a nominal voltage of 116 V and a capacity of 230 Ah (total 26.68 kWh of energy). This margin should be enough to cover approximately 300-326 km in the NEDC cycle, if we focus on the current Wuling, which runs 170 km on a battery with a rating of 13.9 kWh. At the same time, the older Mini EV should retain its attractiveness in terms of price. The current model is not long-range enough to qualify for a government subsidy for electric cars. You need to have exactly 300 km on NEDC to count on a discount of up to 16,200 yuan ($ 2,500). If received, it will almost offset the cost of the larger battery.
