According to the data provided by Ford, at the end of last year, 80,577 copies of the Ford Mustang were sold worldwide. Thus, the Ford Mustang accounted for 15.1% of the global sports car market.
On April 17, the Ford Mustang celebrates its 57th anniversary and this iconic sports car has something to brag about. It is the world’s best-selling sports car for the second consecutive year and the best-selling sports coupe for the sixth consecutive year.
In 2020, the American brand sold 80,577 Mustangs worldwide. According to industry analysts from IHS Markit, Ford’s sports car accounted for 15.1% of the global sports coupe market, up from 14.8% in 2019.
Mustang was the most popular in Europe in 2020. In Hungary, it sold 68.8 percent more compared to 2019. In the Netherlands, they grew by 38.5 percent and in Denmark by 12.5 percent.
Last year, the American brand sold 61,090 Mustangs in the US, down 15.7% from the previous year. The Mustang was the most popular in Texas with 8,600 sold. California came in second with 6,200 vehicles, while Florida came in third with 5,864 vehicles.
Despite the leading position of the Ford Mustang in the compact sports car market, Mustang sales are declining. In 2019, the Blue Oval company was able to sell 102,090 copies of ponies worldwide, which is almost 27% more than in 2020.
