The new 718 Cayman GT4 became the fastest on the Nordschleife

We first heard about the possibility of such a car more than two years ago, almost immediately after the premiere of the new generation Porsche 718 Cayman GT4. Subsequently, the spies repeatedly caught prototypes of the hardcore RS-modification of the coupe with a large wing, air intakes in the front trunk lid and behind the side windows and a number of other differences in the lens, and now the manufacturer himself began to reveal the cards.

The company announced that the most extreme “Cayman” has passed the final tests. The sports car will be fully declassified next month, but in the meantime Porsche has published photos and videos and boasted of the first achievements of the new product. During the tests, the brand ambassador, test driver Jörg Bergmeister, behind the wheel of a slightly disguised but already serial 718 Cayman GT4 RS, covered the 20.832-kilometer Nürburgring North Loop in 7 minutes 9.3 seconds. The 20.6 km track configuration (without the T13 section), which was used for measurements in previous years, took 7 minutes 4.511 seconds – an impressive 23.6 seconds less than the “regular” Cayman GT4.

For the race, the two-door was equipped with a racing seat and shod with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires, which will be available as an option for a commercial sports car. What exactly the coupe deserves the RS badge is not yet recognized by Porsche. GT model line director Andreas Preninger outlined the program of improvements only in general terms: engineers have reduced weight, increased power and downforce, improved response to driver actions. If you believe the rumors a year and a half ago, the 420-horsepower six-cylinder boxer was supposed to give way to the 510-horsepower – like the new Porsche 911 GT3.

Although it is definitely an unfinished replica, I would be interested in contact details, anyway. Maybe this could be an interesting project.
