In November, at the Los Angeles International Auto Show, the finalists for the “North American Car, Pickup and SUV of the Year” competition (abbreviated as NACTOY) were announced. And now the winners of the prestigious nominations have become known.
Among the cars, Honda Civic, Lucid Air and sports Volkswagen Golf GTI and Golf R claimed the victory. Among the pickups, the Ford Maverick, Hyundai Santa Cruz and the electric Rivian R1T reached the final. The SUV category includes Ford Bronco, Genesis GV70 and Hyundai Ioniq 5.
The winners are:
- New generation Honda Civic;
- Ford Maverick;
- Ford Bronco.
The initial list of nominees included 36 new models, 23 reached the second stage, and 9. The jury includes automotive journalists from the USA and Canada, there are 50 of them in total.
Last year, Hyundai Elantra became the best passenger car – the Korean sedan outstripped its premium compatriot Genesis G80 and Nissan Sentra, which also reached the final. In the SUV category, the first place went to the Ford Mustang Mach-E electric crossover, with more points than the Genesis GV80 and Land Rover Defender. In the category of pickups, experts recognized the F-150.
The NACTOY competition has been running for 27 years, but until 2017 the winners were determined only in two categories: cars and SUVs, where pickups also competed.
