The Volkswagen T7 Multivan teaser campaign continues as the automaker revealed new details about the upcoming plug-in hybrid variant. Called the Multivan eHybrid, it features a lithium-ion battery, electric motor, turbocharged petrol engine and dual-clutch transmission.

Volkswagen did not go into details, but said the battery is installed under the floor. This helps maximize interior space as well as lower the center of gravity. The eco-friendly van will have a charging port on the front passenger side fender and wall boxes for quick charging at home.

The Multivan eHybrid will have an EV-only range. The company also said the van will run electronically “whenever possible” to maximize efficiency and reduce emissions. However, at higher speeds or when the battery is low, the turbo engine will run.

Volkswagen further stated that “the combination of an electric motor and a petrol engine ideally combines environmental friendliness with the typical MPV versatility qualities.”

The T7 Multivan will debut on June 10 and hit the market in the second half of this year. It is expected to run on the MQB platform and be offered with a range of petrol and diesel engines as well as the aforementioned plug-in hybrid powertrain.
