The new powerplant is rumored to produce at least 345 horsepower, if not more.
In recent months, the media has been persistently circulating information that the next generation Subaru WRX and STI will receive engines of the FA24 family. The Japanese are expected to present the new model in early summer 2022, the Japanese website Goo-Net.com writes about it.
Presumably, the WRX will receive a 296-horsepower engine. In comparison, the current model sold in the US is powered by a 268-horsepower two-liter FA20F engine.
WRX STI, according to rumors, will receive a more powerful 345-horsepower version of the FA24 engine. Moreover, the final return may be higher. The current WRX STI gets a 2.5-liter turbo engine with 310 horsepower. Interestingly, earlier rumors attributed more power to the new product: it was claimed that the STI would have 400 hp. and 490 Nm of torque, as well as four-wheel drive.
2.4-liter FA24 has become an ordinary engine in Subaru cars. The turbocharged version appears in the Ascent, Legacy XT and Outback XT.
The naturally aspirated version is available in the new BRZ and Toyota GR 86. It is predicted that the WRX will receive a CVT, and the WRX STI will receive the “mechanics”. They will borrow the platform from the second generation Levorg. The debut of the new WRX STI may take place early next summer. Subaru has already started a teaser campaign for the standard WRX.
Goo-Net.com believes the future WRX and STI will be the last non-electrical options. Emission standards are getting stricter every year, and one by one automakers are abandoning internal combustion engines.
