Opel has started road tests of the new generation of the five-door Astra L hatchback. Spy shots from the tests were published by Motor1. According to them, the premiere of the car will take place in the second half of this year. The production of the machine will be set up at a plant in Rüsselsheim (Germany).
In spy photos, the hatchback is wrapped in an unusual yellow camouflage. However, we can already say that the car will receive major design changes. In particular, the exterior of the car will be made in accordance with the new corporate style of the Opel Vizor, a distinctive feature of which is the narrow LED front optics, visually combined with the radiator grille. This design language was first demonstrated on the GT X Concept, which was unveiled in 2018.
Motor1 noticed that the car in the photos has two hatches on each side of the body. It is possible that the pictures show a hybrid modification of the new Astra. According to unofficial data, the model will have two such versions at once – customers will be offered a hatchback with rear-wheel drive and an all-wheel drive model with a total capacity of about 300 horsepower.
The novelty will be built on the EMP2 platform. The same chassis will receive the next generation Peugeot 308, which will be presented on March 18. Later, the new Opel Astra wagon should also debut, which will receive a prefix in the name Sports Tourer.
