After construction that lasted less than 48 months, the Porsche opens new facility to produce electric sports cars in the district of Zuffenhausen.
“The new plant reflects the traditions of the brand and marks the beginning of a new era for the brand Porsche,” says a member of the Executive Board production and logistics of Porsche AG Albrecht Reimold. – “We decided to build a production Porsche Taycan in the district of Zuffenhausen, where the heart and soul of the brand”.
Serial production of cars will begin, as scheduled, on September 9, 2019. Car Assembly will take place on the “factory of the future” where technology will be used for the production of 4.0. This new level of production with minimal negative impact on the environment: the production of Porsche cars Taycan with the power plant, which will not generate air emissions located in the district of Zuffenhausen, will work without CO2 emissions. In addition, using the electricity generated from renewable sources, and biogas for heat production new buildings are designed to be as energy efficient as possible. Other examples of energy-efficient may also be electric trucks, the use of waste heat in paint shop, roof greening and integrated approach to the search for other potential ways of saving resources.
The construction project consisted of several separate subprojects, each of which had significant scale. The result was a body shop, paint shop, workshop production of electric motors and components, Assembly shop cars and lines of communication between them. In the process of construction of the new production was used by 35 000 tons of iron – that would be enough for the production of 140,000 Porsche 991 body Coupe. The total area of the plant is 170 000 square meters.
Construction was started in 2015
The positive feedback received after the presentation of the concept car E Mission at motor show in September 2015, marked the beginning of the largest construction project since the founding of the plant in the district of Zuffenhausen. In the same year was held the ceremony of laying the first stone of the new bodyshop, which soon will be created a powerful, but lighter car bodies Taycan and the current eighth-generation Porsche 911. In may 2016, the old building was turned into a new paint shop building and multi-storey Assembly building.
“Stuttgart had a few requirements for green building,” – said the Chairman of the Central Department for the construction, environmental and energy management Porsche jürgen king, “But Porsche went a step further. For example, we processed materials obtained from the demolition of old buildings and re-used them in the construction of new”.
New factory inside the factory
“We built a factory inside the plant, located on the territory of the city and close to our neighbors, in the most confined space in a short time and without interrupting existing production sports car running on full capacity. The construction of the new plant was completed without any significant delays,” says Albrecht Reimold. – “This success became possible only thanks to careful planning and the coordinated work of perfect team”.
The team consisted of 130 companies and suppliers. One of the most difficult tasks was the coordination of the movement at the construction site that would not interfere with the daily operation of the plant.
“A close dialogue with our neighbours was very important,” recalls Raymond. “We kept them informed about the progress of work during the execution of the project.”
Here are some numbers: issued 10,000 permits for the construction site, where 530 containers were installed three kilometres of fencing, was laid 35 kilometers of electric cables, 1,000 kilometers of illumination, stretched across the Playground. Inside the factory was built four kilometers of new roads.
