Japanese firm Mitsuoka Motors has scheduled the first deliveries of its new Mitsuoka Buddy crossover in June. The basis for this SUV is the popular Japanese Toyota RAV4 crossover. At the same time, the novelty got a retro design: it took over all the best from American SUVs of the 70s.
Mitsuoka Buddy debuted last fall. Until he went beyond the home market: the Japanese managed to book 545 crossovers. Mitsuoka Motors did not expect such a stir. As a result, the customers of the brand will have to wait for the ordered car for two years. Those who pre-order now will only see their cars in the spring of 2023.
Brand planned to produce 300 of these SUVs annually. However, the growing interest in the new product forced her to reconsider these plans: they decided to double the figure at once. The new Japanese crossover is based on the well-known Toyota RAV4.
The novelty differs from the “donor” by a redesigned stern and an original front end, inspired by old SUVs. With its shapes and rich chrome decor, the novelty resembles the classic American SUV Chevrolet K5 Blazer in the version from the 1970-1980s.
The bumpers, the radiator grille, all the optics and even the wheel covers have undergone alterations.
But the body panels of Buddy are original. In their manufacture, the Japanese used polypropylene and molded ABS plastic. Equipped with a retro crossover with a standard RAV4 two-liter gasoline engine. A hybrid modification is also available for purchase. Drive – front or full, regardless of the selected power plant.
Buddy costs at least $ 45,000. For comparison, a regular RAV4 is much cheaper on the domestic market – $ 25,000 for the base version.
Previously, our portal said that the Japanese premium brand Lexus will present the new generation LX SUV in the second half of 2021. The main rival of the novelty is the new Toyota Land Cruiser 300. The Japanese will become its more premium analogue.
