Two-thirds of all cars sold in Norway in 2021 were electric cars. And Tesla became the most popular brand. Such data were released on Tuesday, January 4th. Norway is very concerned about the environment.
The country is one of the leading oil producers in the world, so it would be realistic to provide a low cost of gasoline. However, a strategic plan was adopted for an early transition to electric traction.
One of the advantages is the exemption from car taxes for owners of electric cars. This measure, according to the authorities, will increase the share of electric vehicles on the market to 80% in 2022. Compared to 2020, sales of new electric cars increased by 25% and reached 176,276 units, which was an absolute record.
At the same time, many new companies are entering the Norwegian market that are engaged in electric cars – among them Polestar and Nio can be distinguished.
Tesla became the market leader with a share of 11.6%, and Volkswagen is in second place, which showed a result of 9.6%. If we talk about the model rating, then the Tesla Model 3 sedan became the absolute leader. The second line goes to the Toyota RAV4 hybrid crossover. Volkswagen ID.4 closes the top three. There is no doubt that the electric car market in Norway will continue to develop at a very high pace in the future.
