Mazda recently updated the CX-5 crossover, prompting rumors that the third generation of the Japanese bestseller is being delayed. However, apparently, the plans to launch the next generation remain unchanged, which was recently confirmed by the director of the Australian division of Mazda Vinesh Bhindi, who along the way revealed some new details about the promising project.
As previously assumed, the new CX-5 will be built on a fundamentally different platform. Along with the change of the “bogie”, the philosophy of the model will also change – instead of a front-wheel drive base with a transverse arrangement of the engine, a rear-drive chassis with a longitudinal arrangement of the power unit will be used.
A change in the technical paradigm, as well as increased dimensions, should transfer the CX-5 from the mass segment to the premium class. The engine for the novelty will be a gasoline “turbo six”, aggregated with a “mild hybrid” system (appendix in the form of a 48-volt starter-generator).
It is possible that the CX-5 2022 and the new generation will be sold in parallel. In this case, the second will receive the CX-50 index and will be located in the hierarchy one step higher than the usual crossover.
Recall that sales of the second generation Mazda CX-5 began in 2016. In Ukraine, such crossovers are now asking for from $ 29,500.
