Volkswagen CEO Herbert Diess has been extremely active online lately. This week, his choice fell on the Reddit forum, where he took part in a short Q&A session. One of the most pressing issues was the question of the entry of the Skoda brand into the North American market.
Herbert Diess said that Skoda has bigger things to do – the manufacturer from Mladá Boleslav is bringing the MQB-A0 platform to the markets of, India, as well as African and Latin American countries. In fact, these markets have become target markets for the company.
In addition, users asked about the return of Volkswagen diesel engines to the US and Canadian markets. According to the head, the concern is not considering such a possibility after the scandal known as “dieselgate”.
Diesel models will be replaced by electric models in the coming years. Already on March 9, the ID.Buzz electric van will be presented, which will go on sale in the US in 2023 only as a passenger model. At the same time, in Europe, the car will begin to be sold before the end of this year in two configurations at once – passenger and cargo. It also became known that in 2025 a camper from the California series with an all-electric power plant will appear in the USA.
Among other things, Diess said that Volkswagen is considering bringing a full-size pickup and convertible based on the ID.3 to the North American market.
