On this day, August 29, marks 134 years since the first motorcycle with an internal combustion engine. In 1885 it was patented by none other than Gottlieb Daimler.
Actually even if the motorcycle was not a motorcycle and two-wheeled cart, which in 1885 Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach was used as a booth to demonstrate his invention of the internal combustion engine. But in the history he is considered the forerunner of all modern bikes, since previously in the transport of this design engine was not installed.
The power unit with a volume of 264 cm? had one cylinder and fueled with kerosene. Its power was 1.5 HP and the speed is enormous in those days 12 km/h.
The engine was mounted on a wooden frame, and the two wooden wheels. In the same year Daimler patented a “wagon riding with the internal combustion engine”. However, motorcycles were not the main goal of the engineers and their design, they did not return. The “wagon” was destroyed by fire in 1904, but one hundred years later, was a replica mostly for museums and exhibitions.
If the earlier bikes were the only means of transportation, now it is a huge culture with sports Championships, customization and all sorts of festivals. Happy birthday, motorcycle!
Anyway, in the modern world the electric motors to slowly displace the internal combustion engine, as in the auto and motorcycle industry. One of the new motorcycles with this engine – Sur-Ron Boom Bee – a was recently spotted on tests.
