Mazda 2 Hybrid is offered in Europe in the only version that has a 1.5 3-cylinder naturally aspirated engine (92 hp), an electromechanical variator, and an 80-horsepower electric motor.
Introduced back in December 2021, the Mazda 2 Hybrid hatchback is already available in Europe. This model has nothing to do with the “real” five-door Mazda 2, since it is just a variation of the Toyota Yaris model with Mazda nameplates. Moreover, only the hybrid version of the Yaris underwent badge engineering, although it also has purely gasoline options.
In this simple way, Mazda has expanded Europe’s limited range of electrified models to reduce average emissions. The Suzuki brand had previously gone the same way, which brought two hybrid cars to the European market: the Swace station wagon (aka Toyota Corolla) and the Across crossover (aka Toyota RAV4). The new version of the Mazda 2 Hybrid is also only for Europe.
Thus, the Mazda 2 Hybrid is offered to European customers in a single version that has a three-cylinder naturally aspirated unit 1.5 (92 hp), an electromechanical variator and an 80-horsepower electric motor, the maximum power of the hybrid version is 116 hp. Such a car can accelerate to the first “hundred” in 9.7 seconds, the average fuel consumption is 3.8-4.0 liters per 100 kilometers. There are 3 configurations and several optional packages to choose from.
The pricing policy regarding the novelty is interesting. For example, in France, such a Mazda model costs from 21,500 euros, while a similar hybrid Toyota Yaris is estimated at at least 22,450 euros. In the UK, the benefit is smaller, but still there: £20,300 for Mazda versus £20,820 for Toyota.
