The ASEAN NCAP organization conducted a crash test of the Toyota Corolla Cross compact crossover, which is sold in the markets of Southeast Asia. The model earned a total of 88.61 points and thus surpassed the result of the frame Toyota Hilux with a diesel engine, which scored 83.42 points.
For testing, we chose a right-hand-drive Corolla Cross of Thai Assembly, equipped with a 1.8-liter gasoline engine with a capacity of 140 horsepower, CVT and front-wheel drive. For safety, seven airbags, ABS, ESP, automatic braking, lane control and others were responsible.
As in the case of the Hilux, the crossover was smashed against the barrier at a speed of 64 kilometers per hour and an overlap of 40 percent (such a test is conducted by the European EuroNCAP). This was followed by a side impact on a moving trolley with a deformable module.
Corolla Cross gave the following ratings: 33.01 points out of 36 possible for the safety of front passengers, 44.35 points out of 49 for the safety of children and 14.50 points out of 18 for the safety of children. The overall score of 88.61 points corresponds to a maximum of five stars.
The Toyota Corolla Cross debuted in July this year. The crossover is built on a simplified version of the tnga-C modular platform with a semi-independent rear suspension, and is larger than the C-HR. In Thailand, prices for the model start from 30.8 thousand dollars.
