The Toyota brand has found another use for the Crown name, under which luxury sedans are offered in the Japanese market. According to the AutoHome edition, the original logo of the Crown line will appear on one of the modifications of the Kluger crossover: this is how the SUV is called in Japan and some other countries, and in Ukraine it is known as the Toyota Highlander.
Toyota is already selling the Highlander in China, a joint venture between the Japanese corporation and the local GAC brand. But another Chinese manufacturer, FAW, is reportedly behind the new Crown Kluger project.
So, to expand the range of its crossovers in the Chinese market, Toyota, with the help of the FAW brand, adapted the American version of the Highlander in the HSE version to local conditions. Such a car is distinguished by a more developed body kit and an upgraded radiator grille. An additional distinction of the Crown Kluger crossover will be the stylized crown logo, which is used in the Japanese market on the Crown sedan.
In terms of technical parameters, there will be no differences between the Chinese versions of the Highlander and the Crown Kluger. Both SUVs intend to equip with a hybrid powertrain based on a 2.5-liter gasoline engine, which produces 192 hp. It is possible that the Crown Kluger will debut at the upcoming Shanghai Auto Show.
