Last Friday, a fire broke out at a semiconductor chip manufacturer Renesas. The fire damaged not only the production lines, but also the warehouses of the enterprise. In this regard, the largest Japanese automakers are currently trying to assess the consequences of the accident for themselves.
Note that the fire could exacerbate the shortage of conductors due to the fact that Renesas produces about 30% of the world’s chips. The press service of the company said that it will take one month at best to restore the production line. After reports of the fire, shares of Toyota, Nissan and Honda fell 3.3%, while Renesas itself fell 5.5%.
Recall that Honda and Nissan this year have repeatedly faced a shortage of semiconductors, which is why both brands stopped production of some models. Toyota in this regard has not touched the deficit, at least not yet.
