The tests will be conducted in cooperation with the American company Hino and may begin by 2022.
The American division of Toyota in cooperation with the company Hino is going to start testing heavy trucks with fuel cells. This became known on Tuesday, August 13. The first tests should begin in the spring of 2022 – so the operation of such machines can start earlier than planned.
The requirements for heavy electric trucks are quite strict – they must have a high load capacity and at the same time a large power reserve, and it is quite difficult to combine these two parameters.
To solve this problem, fuel cells that run on high-density hydrogen are just used. According to preliminary calculations, the power reserve can reach 600 kilometers without additional charging.
If the tests confirm such characteristics, this could be a real breakthrough.
In this case, it will be possible to obtain not only efficient vehicles, but also practically reduce environmental pollution to zero.
