Toyota can expand the Land Cruiser and Hilux families with a sporty version of the GR. This information in a conversation with the site Carsales.com confirmed by a representative of the brand’s Australian division. According to him, the name Hilux GR is already registered, and “there are no obstacles” for the appearance of the Land Cruiser GR.
To date, Toyota produces several models prepared in conjunction with the Motorsport division of the Japanese brand Gazoo Racing – these are, for example, the GR Supra and GR Yaris, which are equipped with powerful engines. In addition, “sporty” versions of GR Sport are available in the Corolla sedan and C-HR crossover. They differ from the standard models with a body kit with glossy black accents, a spoiler and seats with developed side support.
Land Cruiser GR, in turn, will be offered a new petrol turbo V8 engine with a volume of 4.0 liters. It can be assumed that such an SUV will receive a sports body kit and the same attributes as existing cars of the GR Sport line.
Previously, Toyota registered the GR Corolla and GR Fortuner trademarks, so a sports version may be offered for these models in the future.
Meanwhile, in the US, the Toyota land Cruiser SUV may be retired after the end of its life cycle. At the same time, the co-platform Lexus LX will remain on the market. There is no official confirmation of this yet.
