Toyota revealed hydrogen-powered electric sedan Mirai in Tokyo


Toyota showed off its new hydrogen-powered Mirai electric sedan at an auto show in Tokyo before launching it.

New Toyota Mirai built on the same platform as the current generation of the Toyota Crown sedans for the Japanese market. Thus, its dimensions have increased in comparison with the previous model – the length is 4975 mm (+85 mm) and the distance between the axes – 2920 (+140 mm).

From the point of view of design, the new model has become more aggressive. It is wider and lower than the car which it replaces, and has a “boring” profile with a long bonnet and sloping rear roof. Novelty is also equipped with a wide front grille, large splitter “on the chin”, a deep rear diffuser and a stylish set of alloy wheels 20 inches.

Currently, details of the hydrogen-electric motor is not, however, Toyota confirmed that it will increase the reserve by 30% to 708 km in comparison with the predecessor due to the large storage tank for hydrogen. The hydrogen car is now charging much faster than charging of the electric vehicle.

Power should also be improved by fully developed fuel cell system. The performance of the last models made 152 HP and 335 Nm of torque, these figures are likely to rise to the second generation.


The interior of the new Mirai, it seems, will get free design with soft leather upholstery, touchscreen digital instrument panel, a wireless charger for the smartphone and a new multimedia system with 12.3-inch display. In addition, due to updated system of hydrogen storage, the new Mirai will be available in 5-seater layout together quadruple.
