It became known under which sub-brand Toyota will produce its electric vehicles – this is the abbreviation BZ. The concern has already applied for the registration of the trademark and logo of the new brand. BZ stands for Beyond Zero, which hints at zero emissions. The company has not officially announced the sub-brand yet.
The first among Toyota electric vehicles will be a crossover with dimensions with RAV4. The upcoming novelty is expected to have a longer wheelbase and smaller body overhangs, which will increase the amount of space in the cabin relative to its petrol counterpart. The electric car is planned to be produced in Japan, but it will probably be sold worldwide.
Toyota BZ electric vehicles will be based on the new e-TNGA platform, developed in conjunction with Subaru for electric vehicles with front, rear or all-wheel drive. Declared support for a wide range of electric motors and batteries. The e-TNGA has a fixed distance from the front axle to the engine shield, as well as the width of the fasteners for the battery, front and rear electric motors.
Last year Toyota applied for trademarks from BZ1 to BZ5 (no logos, only names). This means that in the first phase, the company is preparing five electric vehicles. All of them, or at least some of them, are shown in the sketch for the June 2019 press release. It shows several crossovers of different sizes and a couple of compact vans.
As for the firstborn of the BZ series, his appearance has not yet been fully disclosed. There are patent images of the electric crossover, but they are most likely a concept, not a production model. The British edition AutoExpress presented what the final sample might look like and published a couple of computer sketches.
However, it won’t take long to guess: the Toyota electric crossover will be presented this April at the Shanghai Motor Show.
