The fourth-generation MDX crossover became the first car of this class in the Acura portfolio to have a “charged” version with the Type S prefix. It has been known about it for a long time: the company announced a new product six months ago, but until today it has not published a single one. snapshot of the model. Now the first details have been revealed, as well as the date of the public debut has been announced – it will take place on June 27 as part of the Pikes Peak High Speed Climb Race in Colorado, USA.
The visually “charged” version of the MDX crossover features different, more aggressive bumpers and a small-cell grille. The exterior design elements are black while the regular MDX has chrome. Also, the exhaust system pipes have changed: the Type S has four of them, with a double pair on each side, when a conventional crossover has standard rectangular pipes.
In the engine compartment there is a three-liter V-shaped “turbo six”, the maximum power of which reaches 360 horsepower and 480 Nm of torque – the TLX Type S sedan is equipped with a similar engine. The gearbox is the same as that of a conventional crossover, – a ten-band “machine”. But it is set up differently. In addition, there is a new, more aggressive Sport + riding mode.
The five-meter crossover, of course, will not participate in the race as a participant, but as a tractor that will tow racing cars. Sales of the model will be launched closer to autumn, at the same time the company will reveal more details regarding the interior equipment of the car, as well as its cost.
