Upcoming New York Auto Show canceled due to delta strain

Mark Schoenberg, President of the New York Auto Show, announced the cancellation of the event due to the growing number of cases of infection with the delta strain of Covid-19 and the strengthening of measures recently announced by officials.

The New York Auto Show has 121 years of history. Until recently, the administration of the exhibition hoped that it would take place in the expanded space of the Javits Convention Center, but in the past few days, circumstances have changed dramatically. This greatly complicated the organization of the event, and it was decided to abandon it.

The number of vaccinations in New York is growing every day, but despite this, local authorities have introduced new restrictive measures due to the spread of the Covid-19 delta strain. The letter does not say anything about the possibility of holding an online auto show, but hopes that it will take place in April 2022.

New York International Auto Show could not be held last year: after the cancellation in the spring, they hoped to open its doors in late summer, and then in early autumn, but in the end they decided to postpone the exhibition until August 20-29, 2021.

Then the pandemic was not directly mentioned in the announcement, but it was obvious to everyone that this was a key factor. However, the organizers noted that during the downtime they will have time to expand the Jacob Javits Convention Center to open several new spaces at once, including an additional 100,000 square feet (over 9,000 m2) on the main floor.
