Updated SEAT Ateca seen on the tests

Debuted March 1, 2016 first crossover, the brand got the long awaited update.

Recall that for the first time 3 years ago, the crossover of SEAT was followed by Ateca Ateca sports new FR and Cupra Ateca 2 years later. Now, about 3 years after launch of the first SUV of the Spanish brand, we have the first spy photos of the updated Ateca made somewhere in the Alps.

We are witnessing the early stages of testing the updated model, and the automaker brought to the test two different prototype. First, it seems identical to Ateca, which is sold today – even the front bumper does not have any change, but the second a little more interesting. The front part of the prototype, including lights, masked by a dense layer of camouflage.

Instead of the standard headlights in this car, on the hood there is an additional bulb. This probably means that the front optics will be fully redesigned or at least modified schedule. The whole bumper and part of the grille also masked, alluding to additional visual improvement in the front.

At the rear of can observe a number of unusual sensors, including the installed on each wheel. This may mean that Spanish engineers are testing some sort of energy recovery system. On this basis, we can assume that Ateca may get a hybrid powertrain with plug-in.

Given the age of Ateca, we do not expect to see an updated model this year. The SUV is still in the early stages of testing, so it seems more likely that the presentation will take place in the first half of 2020 at the Geneva motor show.
