Volkswagen’s new Taigo subcompact will be built at the Spanish plant in Pamplona and sold in 28 European countries, including Turkey, plus Africa. Acceptance of orders will open at the end of the year, deliveries to customers will begin in 2022. The range of Taigo units repeats the “fourth” Skoda Fabia hatchback: 1.0 TSI petrol engines (95 HP, 175 Nm and 110 HP, 200 Nm) are promised, 1.5 TSI (150 HP, 250 Nm) from five – and a six-speed “mechanics”, as well as a seven-speed “robot” DSG. The drive is purely front.
The MQB-A0 platform makes Taigo similar to the Polo, T-Cross, T-Roc models. Dimensions are exactly the same as the Brazilian SUV Nivus: 4266 × 1757 × 1493 mm, wheelbase – 2566. All photos show Taigo with optional R-Line package.
The interior is simply copied from the Polo. There is a digital instrument panel Digital Cockpit (8-10.25 inches), a Discover Pro media center with a touchscreen (6.5-9.2), a climate control sensor unit, wireless charging of smartphones, a quasi-autopilot IQ.Drive Travel Assist and so on. Trunk volume – 438 liters.
The body does not differ from the Nivus, but the Taigo bumpers are painted in the body color, the graphics of the lamps are different and the matrix headlights IQ.Light are available. However, there is no fin antenna. The rails are “in the base”. Available in 16 “, 17” and 18 “alloy wheels.
Volkswagen calls Taigo “the first SUV coupe in the segment” and promises a price below 20,000 euros. Electrification of the model is not planned yet, but in theory a moderate hybrid is possible. Rumors about a “charged” version of the GTI are not confirmed. Note that the original Nivus from May to December 2020 found 16,242 hosts in South America at prices ranging from R $ 100,050 to R $ 114,650 ($ 19,600- $ 22,400).
