Volkswagen has figured out how to avoid penalties for failure to meet requirements to reduce emissions. It will sell its electric cars in its own company for short term car rental.
According to European Union legislation, all manufacturers must constantly reduce the level of harmful emissions their cars. This takes into account total emissions, but not released, but only those that were sold.
Norm regularly reduce in 2020 it amounts to 95 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometre, whereas last year the figure was 130. If a carmaker exceeds the level of harmful emissions, he is obliged to pay a fine of 95 euros for every extra gram of emissions.
In the end, the management of Volkswagen has figured out how to avoid penalties. In the summer of 2019, it became known that in Germany, earned a corporate car-share WeShare, and now, the newspaper writes Fortune, signed a contract for the supply of the machines themselves. Thus, the company will be able to fill fleet of its car-share, and significantly increase the proportion of electric vehicles in total sales.
The service itself is currently available only in Berlin, can be rented one from a thousand of the electric hatchback e-Golf compact and the electric e-up!, however, in the near future WeShare must earn in other European cities.
