VW can return the “Beetle”

Volkswagen does not abandon the idea of development of an electric pickup truck and the revival in one capacity or another of the Beetle model – also on electric traction. Such conclusions can be drawn from the statements of the head of the VW Group Herbert Diess, which the top manager made during the Ask Me Anything question and answer session on the popular Reddit resource. In addition, Diess confirmed the appearance in the near future of other electric cars – in particular, an affordable hatch and a large sedan.

Volkswagen’s next electric novelty should be the ID.Buzz minibus – its premiere is scheduled for March this year. In turn, answering a question about the possibility of reviving the iconic Beetle, Herbert Diess noted that the current MEB platform allows the development of other emotional models – that is, he did not begin to directly deny the chance of the Beetle returning to the lineup.

Herbert Diess did not turn down the possible development of an electric pickup truck, he called this idea a “good idea”, but did without any details.

In 2023, Volkswagen plans to introduce a production version of the ID.Vizzion concept, which, apparently, will become an electric alternative to the current VW Passat. At the same time, according to the head of the VW Group, the concern is also working on other electric vehicles in classic bodies – but they will enter the market under the brands Audi and Bentley.

Finally, Herbert Diess noted that one of the company’s priorities remains to bring affordable electric vehicles to the market with a starting price of about 20,000 euros.
