Volkswagen Commercial Vehicle Marketing is very busy developing the popular next generation van. In Wolfsburg, the next Multivan appeared behind the scenes, a new teaser of which appeared on the web again. The newcomer will see the light of day in June.
Usually the Multivan is the passenger version of the Transporter, but soon things will be different, as Volkswagen has taken a different, less familiar path for us. The bus will sit in the lineup next to the current generation Transporter. This is quite interesting, although it cannot be ruled out that the Transporter will eventually be replaced by a model technically related to the new Multivan, or perhaps the ID Buzz. The new sketches showcase the passenger bus better than ever.
According to Volkswagen, the Multivan will be much larger than the current MPV model. In any case, it will be hosted on the MQB platform. It is possible that the current generation Transporter and therefore the Multivan are still on the platform that Volkswagen unveiled in 2003 under the T5. Volkswagen says the new Multivan is roomier than ever thanks to its larger wheelbase.
The new Multivan has a split front pillar, familiar to us from the Citroen C4 Space Tourer. The names Multivan and Bulli can be read under the cutaway window of the A-pillar. The bonnet is still quite short, but at least visually the MPV’s nose looks less dull than the current-generation Transporter / Multivan. As with the current generation, a straight line extends from the headlights to the sides, but in the case of the latest Multivan it connects to the now horizontally oriented, wider taillights. Of course, it will have sliding doors again soon.
