German electric vehicle wins IIHS Top Safety Pick + award.
The 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 electric car is not only an affordable and roomy electric crossover with a large power reserve, but also claims to be very safe. After completing crash tests, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awarded the electric VW the highest IIHS Top Safety Pick + award for safety.
In all crash tests VW excelled in all respects with a “good” mark. The vehicle’s safety systems reportedly received high ratings, with frontal collision avoidance being rated “excellent,” and headlights and child seat anchorage accessibility being rated “good.”
These scores are nearly identical to those of the Top Safety Pick + award winning Volvo XC40 Recharge and the Tesla Model 3, with all headlights rated Good. The Ford Mustang Mach-E only received a Top Safety Pick rating (no “+”) due to a low rating for headlights in two trim levels. However, the Mustang Mach-E scores slightly higher for frontal pedestrian collision avoidance than VW, Volvo and Tesla.
