The American division of Volkswagen has announced that the ID.4 electric car has set a new Guinness record for the longest journey in an all-electric vehicle without solar energy in a single country.

Travelers Rainer Zietlow and Derek Collins traveled continuously for 96 days in a Volkswagen ID.4 across the United States, driving a total of 35,770 miles (57,500 kilometers). The record trip allowed them to visit 48 states of the country, as well as to tour 628 Volkswagen dealerships in different parts of the United States.

Rainer Zietlow, already known for his marathon races, said that the current trip speaks not only of the reliability of the ID.4 electric car, but also of the actual readiness of the national electric mobile infrastructure. During the route, the authors of the record used charging stations of the Electrify America network.

Hein Schafer, VP of Marketing at Volkswagen America, said the accomplishment of Zietlow and Collins is further proof of the ID.4’s ability to be a realistic alternative to conventional internal combustion engines.
