VW is preparing a “green” version GTE

Journalists were seen a prototype of the midsize crossover VW Touareg hybrid modification of the GTE. The machine has not received a single gram of camouflage.

In February of this year, Volkswagen introduced the Touareg R – the most powerful (when it comes to horsepower), the German iteration of the crossover of the last generation. With 456 horsepower (700 Nm), which are provided with plug-in hybrid powertrain with a 3.0-liter gasoline engine, this version of the popular car has huge power and can even reach the speed of 140 km/h in pure electric mode.

These photos show a completely undisguised no camouflage, the prototype Touareg GTE. As its name implies, this will be an electrified version of the big German crossover that will be positioned below the Touareg R in the current hierarchy model. In fact, we already have a pretty good idea of what probably will be under the hood of the novelty.

When the new Touareg was released in April 2018, the automaker announced a version of the PHEV (plugin-hybrid) for the Chinese market.

This car used a 2.0-liter gasoline engine and an electric motor with a battery of 18 kWh. the Total capacity of the hybrid was 362 HP – so much must have the European version of the model.

As shown by these “spy” photos, Touareg GTE will not be much different from the rest of the trim levels of the crossover. VW will visually differentiate the new product, adding to its exterior visual touches, special badges and maybe slightly changed the front panel to better distinguish it from diesel, petrol and R-versions of crossover. Plug-in hybrid version of the Touareg will present before the end of the year.
