The fact that the first electric crossover Volkswagen will have a brother with a fashionable coupe-like body, there is no secret for a long time. Nevertheless, our spies have never encountered its prototypes – until now.
The electric car was photographed during testing at the Nurburgring. Although it seems quite obvious that it will differ from the standard all-terrain vehicle, mainly by the roof line and the rear part of the body, the developers for some reason disguised the front, making the car look like an Opel – that is, they repeated the same trick that they had already resorted to when testing the ID.4 itself.
The cross-coupe will presumably be called Volkswagen ID.5. It will completely borrow all the technical features from the “four”, that is, it will be available with rear and all-wheel drive, the same battery for 82 kilowatt-hours, a large set of options and the ability to update the software wirelessly. The premiere is scheduled to take place next year.
The Audi Q4 e-tron and Skoda Enyaq iV electric crossovers, built like the Volkswagen ID. 4 on the MEB platform, will also have coupe-like versions.
