On September 7th at the IAA Mobility in Munich, under the guise of a “disguised concept”, the coupe-like compact ID.5 GTX will be revealed. The new electric car will enter the assembly line in Zwickau in winter and enter the European market in early 2022. In fact, this is the same VW ID.4 GTX with a 220 kW (299 hp) twin-engine unit, four-wheel drive, a 77 kWh battery system and a 497 km (WLTP) range.
The rookie is billed as Volkswagen’s first electric crossover “with an elegant coupé silhouette.” Dimensions are not named, but you can orient yourself by ID.4: 4582x1852x1616 mm, wheelbase – 2765.
Volkswagen pays attention to flowing lines, short overhangs, large wheels (20 inches), matrix headlights IQ.Light, “three-dimensional” lights and a rear spoiler. The original ID.4 GTX converts a hundred in 6.2 seconds, reaching 180 km / h. The Coupe could be slightly faster due to its streamlined design.
The ID.4 GTX SUV is available in Germany from June for 50,415 euros, with 7,500 returning to the buyer’s pocket as a subsidy. The launch of the “coupe” with a price tag of about 52,000 will be complicated by the competitor Tesla Model Y, whose production at the German plant Gigafactory Berlin will start before the end of 2021. In the first half of the year, Volkswagen sold a total of 171,000 electric vehicles (+ 165%) and aims to increase their share in Europe to 70% by 2030.
