The new Mercedes-Benz C-Class will receive an all-electric version in a few years, which will be designed on a new platform.
Mercedes-Benz Chief Operating Officer Markus Schafer said in an interview with Autocar that the company is going to expand the model range of the new generation C-Class with a modification with an all-electric installation. It will appear no earlier than 2024 and will be built on the new MMA platform for compact electric cars. The base of the “regular” C-Class, as well as the S-Class (W223), is based on the MRA platform, and the electric Mercedes-Benz EQA, EQB and EQC are assembled on the MEA platform. The company will soon introduce 2 more electric models – EQS and EQE.
The electrically powered Mercedes-Benz C-Class will likely receive a separate model name, just as the EQS will be an electric alternative to the “traditional” S-Class. True, if you follow the same logic, then the model should be called EQC, but this index is already used by the electrocrossover.
“The new MMA platform is designed primarily for electric cars. First of all, compact ones, but it can potentially be used to assemble medium-sized models, ”noted Markus Schafer.
