Chinese auto giant Great Wall, which is set to return to Europe through its Wey brand, unveiled the Coffee 01 SUV at the IAA Mobility 2021.
Coffee One will be Wey’s first European offering and is positioned as a premium product compared to the likes of BMW, Audi and Mercedes-Benz.
The premium approach is another strategy for the Chinese company Great Wall Motors, which has previously tried, without much success, to attract European customers with budget proposals.
“We are confident in the product,” said Johnson Qiang, Executive Vice President Europe, Great Wall.
According to Autonews, Germany will become the debut European market for the novelty, and after that the “coffee” SUV is expected in Italy or Spain. Over time, the SUV will master other European countries. The Coffee 01 will be a plug-in hybrid capable of traveling 149 km on electric alone. This is enough to use the SUV as an electric car on a daily basis.
The Coffee 01 is powered by a 2.0-liter internal combustion engine and a pair of electric motors that work in conjunction with a nine-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
The total output of the hybrid reaches 469 hp. The premium SUV falls somewhere between the most popular SUVs in Germany. At 4870 mm, it is longer than the BMW X3, Audi Q5 and Mercedes GLC, but shorter than the BMW X5, Audi Q7 and Mercedes GLE.
