Details of the updated KIA Sportage crossover have been published online. The information came out ahead of his debut next week.
This week, the Korean automaker held a private presentation of the new KIA Sportage in South Korea. The fifth generation of the crossover has recently passed certification from the South Korean Ministry of Environmental Protection, which indicates the imminent start of production of the car. Local dealers are expected to start accepting orders for the new product on July 1, and the first customers can receive the updated Sportage on July 20.
The 180 hp Smartstream CVVD 1.6 Turbo petrol engine was the first to receive noise and emission certification. The minimum Sportage weight with this powerplant is 1,525 kg. The next was a 230-horsepower hybrid variant based on the same engine, coupled to an electric motor and a 6-speed automatic transmission. A crossover equipped with a hybrid powertrain weighs 100 kg more.
The design of the fifth generation KIA Sportage is based on Kia’s new philosophy of “Opposites United” and is dynamic, simple, and reflects the boldness of nature and modern sensuality. Opposites United’s concept debuted on the KIA EV6, the Korean brand’s first electric vehicle built on the E-GMP platform.
The key design feature of the novelty is the new brand logo on the radiator grille. The interior offers cutting-edge technical solutions and original user-oriented design elements. First of all, this is the first for a Korean model to have a panoramic curved screen that connects two 12.3-inch dashboard and multimedia displays.
At the moment, KIA has not confirmed the complete set of the updated Sportage, but, as reported by 32cars.ru, the crossover uses the same third-generation platform as the new Hyundai Tucson. This is expected to improve the crossover’s interior layout and handling.
