The 1996 BMW 5 Series Sedan was taken to the German Autobahn without speed limits and the speed at which it drives with “gas to the floor” was set. The car is on “mechanics” and with a mighty V8 under the hood.
The new hero of the TopSpeedGermany YouTube channel is the BMW 535i in the back of the E39. This modification was produced from 1996 to 2003. Until the 98th year of production, cars were equipped with a 3.5-liter V8 engine under the designation M62B35. According to the passport, such a power unit develops 235 hp. power and 320 Nm of torque. The new car had to accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in 7 seconds, and the maximum speed declared by the manufacturer was 247 km / h.
As can be seen from the recording, even after 25 years, the “five” retained excellent dynamics. On flat sections of the road, in the absence of obstacles in the form of other cars, the sedan gained 240 km / h without any problems, and on descents the speedometer needle completely went beyond the extreme numerical designation, closely approaching the mark of 250 km / h.
By the way, V8 engines are still installed on modern BMW 5 Series (G30). For example, the M550 xDrive version is powered by the 4.4-liter twin-turbo N63 engine. On cars after 2020, it develops 523 hp. and 750 Nm.
