What will be the 8-seater Defender for a city safari?

Rumors about the desire of the guys from Land Rover to supplement the Defender family with a long 8-seater version appeared at the end of 2019 – almost simultaneously with the debut of the new generation of the model. A couple of months ago, a camouflaged SUV with unusual proportions fell into the lenses of photo spies, confirming the intentions of the British and great heating up interest in itself. And now there are no doubts about the debut of such a machine.

At the disposal of our colleagues from the Spanish edition of Motor1 were patent images of the future SUV. Moreover, it is obvious: in comparison with the already existing five-door, the increase in length fell exclusively on the rear overhang. This completely contradicts the tradition, according to which the numerical index “Def” indicates the length of the wheelbase in inches. And even if in the new generation the numbers 90 and 110 were left only for the sake of beautiful continuity (otherwise the short and long modifications should have been designated by indices 102 and 119, respectively), the decision not to increase the distance between the axes of the new 130th is still unusual.

The current Defender 130 should debut next year. The car, whose length exceeds 5100 mm with a wheelbase of 3022 mm, is promised a very spacious third row of seats. And the British are also confident that the new modification will greatly strengthen the position of the model in the markets of North America, China and the Middle East.

Although it is definitely an unfinished replica, I would be interested in contact details, anyway. Maybe this could be an interesting project.
