Talks that the Bavarian automaker’s lineup will soon include the largest, fastest and most expensive crossover appeared several years ago. Since then, the project has made serious progress, and recently it even became known that they will try to start production of the BMW X8 by the end of 2021.
According to insider information, the new product is called Project Rockstar. It is based on the platform of the X7 model, but the future BMW flagship, unlike the same X5 and X6, will differ radically from its relative in the “trolley”.
The crossover will get a body with a lower roof and an original design of the front end with a different radiator grill, two-story predatory squinting LED optics and seriously modernized bumpers. The outlines of the taillights should also undergo changes, which will become thinner and stretch in the direction of the logo on the tailgate, and the rear bumper will get an unusual diffuser.
Nothing is known about the aggregate ruler of the model. However, there are already some guesses. According to rumors, one of the power units of the new X8 will be a hybrid based on a 4.4-liter turbocharged “eight”, the return of which will be about 750 horsepower.
The production of the crossover will be carried out by the BMW plant in the American Spartanburg (Carolina state). Other crossovers of the Bavarian brand are now assembled on it, including: X3, X4, X5, X6 and X7.
The X8 will go on sale in 2022, and its price will clearly be six figures in dollars.
