Hyundai has published more images and a video teaser announcing the premiere of the sports version of the Kona crossover, which will be named N. The car will be presented on April 27 at 10:00 Kiev time.
The video shows a racer texting with Albert Biermann, lead engineer at Hyundai Motor Group, who previously headed the sports division of BMW M. In the messenger, the engineer sends a message stating that “the premiere date has been finalized.
Externally, the Hyundai Kona N will differ from the standard crossover with aerodynamic body elements, a black mesh radiator grille and bumpers with red edging, as well as two exhaust pipes. Plus, the car will receive black alloy wheels, sports brakes with red calipers and Pirelli P Zero tires.
The crossover will be equipped with a 2.0-liter “turbo four” developing 280 hp. and 392 Nm of torque. The engine will be powered by an eight-speed “robot” with two wet clutches. The box uses two electric oil pumps for improved transmission lubrication and clutch cooling.
The driver will be able to select one of three preselective modes: N Grin Shift (normal), N Power Shift (sport), and N Track Sense Shift (track). Plus, for the novelty, the Launch Control function will be provided, which optimizes the settings of the control electronics for the fastest possible start from a place.
The standard Hyundai Kona is available with gasoline supercharged engines ranging from 120 to 198 hp, as well as a hybrid power plant based on a 1.6-liter 106 hp engine, working in conjunction with a 43 hp electric unit. The crossover is sold mainly in Western Europe.
